2024: Year in Review

Happy New Year! 2024 was a year of slow but steady growth and activity for us. Here are some of the highlights from the past year - this will be a somewhat short summary, but encompasses a lot of what we’ve been up to.
Podcasts & Music
Throughout the year, we recorded and produced about 78 complete podcast episodes:
- The Smoke Break: 21 episodes
- 4 Black Dads: 31 episodes
- Talk 2 Them: 26 episodes
- Fool of the Week: 9 shorts
For more info on the podcasts, read about our work here.
We also recorded and produced music for 5 artists, creating an estimated 20-30 tracks in total. Featured artists include:
Mutual Aid
Supply distro from the Joint Office of Homeless Services
Although the JOHS schedule has slowed from weekly to monthly pick-ups, we have continued to sponsor and distribute supplies to the houseless community. We have also been able to provide supplies to other community groups and individuals in need.
Blankets
Thanks to a collaboration between community members, PDX Saints Love, and Halospace, we were able to acquire 5,000 wool blankets from DLA Troop Support, a part of the US Department of Defense. These blankets were distributed to the houseless community and others in need throughout the Portland Metro area during the coldest months of the year. All of the blankets were distributed within a few months of their arrival.
New blanket shipments have come in and are being actively distributed, but are now stored with PDX Saints Love in order to make room at our space for other projects & resources.
Tiny Homes
Since about September, we have also been providing space for a community group that builds and distributes tiny homes to the houseless community. For more information, contact us.
New Feline Friends
Starting in mid-2023, we had a few new feline friends join us at the space. They have been a great addition to the team, and a source of comfort and joy for many of our community members - especially the brave and adventurous calico kitten we named Bug. During the winter, Bug found a new home with Phillip and is now living her best life as an adventure cat - but still visits the space from time to time.
New Site
In August, we launched our new site, which you are currently viewing. The site was created to help folks understand what we’re all about, and where we’re headed. We hope you find it easy to navigate and informative, and we welcome any feedback you may have.
Our donation links from the old halospace.foundation site had been removed for a time, but can now be found at the bottom of every page on this site. If you like what we’re doing and want to support us, please consider donating!
Work is still in progress on our new platform, halo.space, which will be a community-driven content site for our members to share their projects, ideas, and resources. It will provide significant resources for minimal costs, and enable members to connect, collaborate, and more. Stay tuned for more details!
